Ron – New Zealand

‘Penelope’ is a 1955 Berline 203, fitted with a 403 engine.

She has been in my ownership since December 2017, previously owned by a French couple.

I completed the restoration by January 2020, and she is now a rare sight on New Zealand roads, as there are very few others that have survived.

The car is a pleasure to drive, especially with the larger 8CV engine, and the extensive insulation that I installed throughout the intetior, has made the experience much quieter than before.

Peugeot 203s were not locally assembled as they were in Australia, and Penelope was built in France and imported into NZ in 1955.

Date of first registration:01 Februari 1955

  1. Nice to see this. I used to own this car before it was sold to your French couple. I purchased it off a friend of mine in the 1980’s.
It needed quite a bit of work doing to it and as I had no spare time at that stage it sat in my shed for another 25 years. Apon retiring I need to have a project so went through the process of getting that done.
It was a major job. I have photos which I would be happy to email to you.
